Sustainable and Resilient Local Food Systems for Social Protection and Food Security
Description
In response to dropping domestic food production and declining imports, this programme aims to increase local food production for the social safety net by 20% and replace 10% of current imports of selected food products in five provinces of the country’s Eastern region. Its four main pillars focus on efficient local public procurement, agricultural inputs, equipment, and practices, financing for producers and strengthening local food system governance. It targets approximately 1,385,701 people, including 1,079,050 producers and 306,651 beneficiaries of the social protection system. The programme operationalises Cuba’s 2022 Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security.
