Launched under Brazil’s G20 Presidency in 2024, the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty brings together governments, international organisations, civil society, research institutions, and philanthropic partners to accelerate coordinated action to end hunger and poverty worldwide.
Long before becoming the International Land Coalition (ILC), the organisation was founded in 1995 as the Popular Coalition to Eradicate Hunger and Poverty with a shared conviction: that secure land tenure is fundamental to ending hunger and poverty.
Today, as global hunger, inequality, and pressures on land continue to intensify, joining the Global Alliance represents both a renewed commitment and a return to ILC’s founding purpose.
“Joining the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty is a natural step for ILC. Our origins lie in the Popular Coalition to Eradicate Hunger and Poverty, and for more than thirty years we have worked to address one of the most overlooked structural drivers of both: unequal land distribution and access to natural resources,” said Marcy Vigoda, Director of the International Land Coalition
“We are proud to bring the experience of our global network and National Land Coalitions to this collective effort, ensuring that secure land tenure and people-centred land governance are recognised as a cornerstone of food security, poverty reduction, resilient livelihoods, and sustainable development,” she added.
