As part of ongoing efforts to deepen international cooperation in the fight against hunger and poverty, delegations from Haiti, Benin, the Dominican Republic, and Cabo Verde carried out a technical study mission to Brazil during the week of May 26, 2025. The visit was organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Assistance, Family and the Fight against Hunger (MDS) of Brazil, with logistical and technical support from the World Bank and the World Food Program (WFP). The initiative took place under the framework of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Benin are among the thirteen countries that are part of the Fast Track implementation of the Global Alliance, currently working with the interim support team, UN agencies, and multilateral development banks on the preparation of draft implementation plans in the areas of cash transfer, socioeconomic inclusion, and smallholder farmer support, respectively. During the mission, Cabo Verde also expressed its formal intention to join the Global Alliance.
The mission provided an opportunity for the delegations to engage in high-level exchanges with Brazilian authorities and technical teams. Participants shared their experiences and plans around the adoption and expansion of policy instruments to fight hunger and poverty and were introduced to Brazil’s key policy instruments that form part of the Alliance’s policy basket, including the Cisterns Program, the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS), the Bolsa Família Program, the Single Registry, and the Solidarity Kitchens Program.
Brazil’s Minister of Social Development, Wellington Dias, welcomed the delegations and emphasized the importance of shared learning. “The Alliance was born from the G20 but now belongs to all of us—98 member countries, along with multilateral and financial institutions. It is a platform not only to share experiences but also to build large-scale solutions that transform lives,” he said during the opening remarks.
The mission reaffirmed the role of the Global Alliance as a key mechanism for promoting inclusive, innovative, and scalable solutions to eradicate hunger and extreme poverty. These efforts exemplify the spirit of solidarity and collaboration that underpin the Alliance’s vision: to ensure dignified living conditions for all.
