With this step, BOAD contributes expertise and resources to collective efforts against hunger and poverty in West Africa
The West African Development Bank (BOAD) has officially become a member of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The initiative seeks to eradicate hunger and poverty (SDGs 1 & 2) and reduce inequalities (SDG 10) by supporting low-income countries.
With its membership approved in August 2025, BOAD now joins 198 members of the Alliance – including 102 countries, 29 international organizations, 14 financial institutions, and 52 foundations – reinforcing collective efforts to strengthen food security across West Africa.
BOAD’s engagement in the Alliance is structured around two main pillars: financing and knowledge sharing. Under the financing pillar, the Bank will align its project financing objectives with the Alliance’s global effort, with particular focus on food security in the sub-region.
Under the knowledge sharing pillar, BOAD, with over fifty years of experience serving the populations of WAEMU member countries, will contribute technical expertise and operational know-how in addressing food insecurity. At the same time, it will benefit from the insights and experience of a broad network of partners dedicated to sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty worldwide.
Through this collaboration, BOAD is expected to accelerate the implementation of high-impact programs by leveraging the policy tools and financial resources mobilized by the Alliance.
