With only four years remaining to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the international community faces a critical implementation challenge. While proven solutions to reduce poverty and hunger already exist, progress on SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) remains insufficient to meet the 2030 targets.
Despite the scale of the challenge, the priority is no longer identifying what works, but scaling and financing solutions that have already demonstrated results. Accelerating progress will require stronger political leadership, greater investment in integrated policy approaches, and more effective partnerships that connect national priorities with international support.
This side event during the week of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), convened by Brazil and Spain as co-chairs of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, contributes to this agenda by exploring how country-led systems and financing mechanisms can be strengthened and scaled to safeguard development gains and prevent their reversal. Held alongside a complementary event convened by BMZ and the Global Network Against Food Crises on financing prevention and acting earlier in crisis contexts, it forms part of a broader effort to accelerate progress towards SDGs 1 and 2.
