Adherence implies the Principality’s commitment to promoting policies and programs against hunger and poverty

The Andorran Government has agreed to voluntarily join the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, proposed by the Brazilian presidency of the G-20. Andorra associates itself with the recognition that hunger and malnutrition are perverse manifestations of poverty and persistent structural inequality, and the need to eradicate poverty and hunger in all its forms and dimensions and to fully implement the 2030 Agenda.
Adherence to the Global Alliance implies the Principality’s commitment to promoting policies and programs against hunger and poverty, as well as providing guidance and support for policies and programs at the national level.
Andorra supports the Alliance, as well as its mission to support and accelerate efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty (SDGs 1 and 2), while reducing inequalities (SDG 10), contributing to the revitalization of global partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17) and the achievement of other interrelated SDGs, promoting sustainable, inclusive and just transitions.
This initiative aims to implement, expand and improve social programs for the benefit of the poorest and most vulnerable groups, through a mix of public policies that brings together the knowledge accumulated over decades on income transfer, social protection, school meals and other programs, based on the experiences of member countries and various international organizations.
The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty was born under the Indian presidency of the G-20, was resumed under the Brazilian presidency and was formally launched at the Leaders’ Summit held in recent days. The Alliance has three pillars: national, financial, and knowledge.
- National – The Alliance supports national public policies, such as school meals, cash transfers, maternal and early childhood nutrition, and gender equality.
- Financial – The Alliance aims to align national and international financial resources to support the implementation of evidence-based policies and programs.
- Knowledge – The Alliance promotes knowledge generation, technical assistance, and voluntary knowledge sharing among Alliance members.
