Rector Ricardo Gelpi emphasized that the UBA “has the duty to educate and promote social awareness, to make our young people take on the responsibility of caring for, preserving and guaranteeing the right to live in a fairer and more equitable world.”
The seminar “University, Public Policies and the Fight against Hunger and Poverty” was held at the Faculty of Agronomy, within the framework of the historical commitment of the public university to the fight against these global challenges.
The seminar brought together governments, multilateral institutions and academics with the aim of mobilizing resources, technical capacities and knowledge to eradicate hunger and poverty by 2030, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Rector emphasized that “we have a duty to educate and promote social awareness, to ensure that our young people take ownership of the responsibility to care for, preserve, and guarantee the right to live in a more just and equitable world. We know that we must work hard, that reality demands more and better actions from us. We are responding to an international call, forming an Alliance to find solutions to these calamities that, in this highly developed and hyper-technological world, still persist. From the University of Buenos Aires, we open our doors to all who wish to join this crusade,” Gelpi concluded.
