As a founding member, the country will gain access to resources and programs tailored to reduce poverty and hunger through evidence-based approaches.

On Thursday, November 6th, Antigua and Barbuda announced its membership in the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. This initiative, unanimously endorsed by G20 nations, is set to be launched at the G20 Leaders’ Summit on November 18, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro.

“Antigua and Barbuda’s participation in this alliance will allow us to strengthen critical programs, from school meals to elder care, reaching even more vulnerable citizens. We are honored to be part of a global collaborative effort that aligns perfectly with Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to sustainable development and poverty reduction,” said Ambassador Ronald Sanders.

As a founding member, the country will have access to resources and programs specifically designed to reduce poverty and hunger through innovative, evidence-based approaches. Additionally, it will have the opportunity to exchange technical knowledge and expertise with other members.

For the government, Antigua and Barbuda’s involvement reinforces its role as a leader among small states in regional and international efforts to address critical social and economic challenges, and its commitment to achieving sustainable and impactful solutions.

Global Alliance

The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty brings together countries, international organizations, development banks, and philanthropic groups in a coordinated effort to reduce global hunger and poverty through knowledge sharing, financial support, and collaboration.

The initiative will connect member countries seeking assistance with partners providing expert knowledge or financial support to advance sustainable development initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 2.
