Institute Pact Against Hunger Joins the Global Alliance

The organization strengthens its efforts in the fight against hunger and poverty, becoming part of the Global Alliance with a focus on initiatives that drive public policies for food security.

The Institute Pact Against Hunger announced its membership in the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty on Monday, November 11th. This international initiative, formed by governments, institutions, and organizations, is committed to eradicating hunger and poverty worldwide. The Global Alliance—one of Brazil’s top priorities in its G20 presidency—promotes the rollout and scaling of effective public policies while sharing best practices, all aimed at helping countries create adaptable programs that reach the world’s most vulnerable populations.

The Alliance offers a collaborative and technical support platform to build both national and international capacity in the fight against hunger and poverty. Pact Against Hunger’s involvement brings significant reinforcement to the Alliance’s efforts, facilitating knowledge sharing and promoting resource mobilization that drives impactful policies.

“The inclusion of Pact Against Hunger in the Global Alliance marks a major step forward in strengthening the global fight against hunger and poverty,” said Maria Siqueira, co-founder and director of Pact Against Hunger. “This partnership will allow us to collaborate in a range of ways, from sharing what we know makes an impact in Brazil to fostering actions that bring lasting benefits to the most vulnerable populations, especially through global financing initiatives.”

Minister of Social Development and Assistance, Family, and Hunger Alleviation, Wellington Dias, remarked that Pact Against Hunger’s involvement in the Global Alliance represents a valuable contribution to addressing global vulnerability and food insecurity. “The Global Alliance aims to expand the adoption of successful national programs on a large scale to end hunger and poverty worldwide,” he explained. “Pact Against Hunger is joining this collective effort to maximize solutions, and I am confident that their participation will significantly contribute to the initiative’s success,” he added.

With Pact Against Hunger now part of the Global Alliance, the Alliance enhances its ability to support effective, on-the-ground actions to eradicate hunger and poverty, advancing critical Sustainable Development Goals such as ending hunger (SDG 2), eliminating poverty (SDG 1), and reducing inequalities (SDG 10).

Issue Notes (Notas temáticas) are the “guiding principle of Brasil’s G20 presidency”

Known as Issue Notes, the documents kicked off the G20’s thematic discussions, with strategies for the priority issues of Brazil’s presidency of the Forum. Each working group or task force drew up an initial document on topics ranging from climate change to economic inequality, passing through cyber security, health financing and infrastructure. There are a total of 27 guiding documents for the G20 discussions, including those from the Sherpas and Finance tracks.
