Efforts will focus on school meal programs, family farming support, improved water access, and the National Comprehensive Early Childhood Care Program, among other initiatives.
On Thursday, November 7th, the Government of Paraguay formally announced its voluntary membership in the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty by signing the Statement of Commitments. This initiative was spearheaded and agreed upon under the G20 framework, with Brazil holding the pro tempore presidency. The Alliance seeks to tackle the issues arising from the persistence of global poverty and food insecurity.
“We are deeply honored by Paraguay’s membership in the Global Alliance. There’s no way to combat hunger and poverty without joining forces and collaborating,” said Wellington Dias, Brazil’s Minister of Social Development and Assistance, Family, and Hunger Alleviation. “The Global Alliance aims to facilitate this coordination, serving as a practical mechanism for mobilizing financial resources and knowledge from areas of abundance and channeling them to where they are most needed. This supports the scaling of national-level actions, policies, and programs,” he explained.
In the Statement of Commitments, Paraguay pledges to uphold the mission, objectives, and principles of the Alliance and to collaborate with other members to achieve sustainable solutions for global poverty. Among other pledges, it expresses support for the Alliance’s mission to aid and accelerate efforts to eradicate poverty while reducing inequalities.

As part of its commitments to local policy implementation, Paraguay, through the Ministry of Social Development, acknowledges its role in national-level programs and policies against poverty and provides guidance and support for policies and programs at national and subnational levels.
For Minister Tadeo Rojas, this is a significant step in President Santiago Peña’s administration’s efforts to reduce poverty levels. Beyond being an international commitment, it’s an opportunity to continue strengthening ties and coordinated efforts with other governments sharing a common goal.
Efforts will focus on the “Zero Hunger” School Meal Program, family farming and MSME support, promoting improved water access, the “Conditional Cash Transfer Program,” the “Household Social Registry,” and the National Comprehensive Early Childhood Care Program.
In addition to the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Children and Adolescents will also play a crucial role in this Alliance.
