Doha, Qatar – The Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will convene its first Leaders’ Meeting on November 3, 2025, bringing together Leaders, ministers, and CEOs from its 200 member countries and organizations at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The one-day gathering, held on the eve of the Second World Summit for Social Development, marks a pivotal moment in the global fight against hunger and poverty
WHAT TO EXPECT:
New Model for International Cooperation
The meeting will showcase a fundamentally different approach to development cooperation — one that puts country-owned programs against hunger and poverty at the center and aligns multiple partners around national priorities, rather than fragmenting support across small projects or donor-driven initiatives. With national development budgets under pressure, the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty offers a chance to allocate aid resources more effectively and equitably in the interests of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.
Major Partnership Announcements
Four countries — Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, and Zambia — will announce concrete multi partner implementation plans for large-scale national programs against hunger and poverty. These announcements represent the very first results from the Alliance’s ongoing Fast-Track Implementation Planning Initiative, which has mobilized over 85 expressions of interest from international financial institutions, bilateral donors, UN agencies, and philanthropies in just a few months. Several other countries have also finalized or are putting the final touches on their plans under the Fast-Track approach and are garnering support, including Benin, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Mozambique, Palestine, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Leaders from Cuba, Somalia and other Alliance member countries are expected to announce their joining of this initiative in Doha.
Expected commitments include:
- Multi-million-dollar financing packages from development banks and bilateral partners
- Technical cooperation agreements spanning social protection, agriculture, nutrition, and water access
- Integrated approaches combining cash transfers, school feeding, smallholder farmer support, graduation, child protection and climate resilience
