DEAR READER,
The third edition of the “Lifting Lives” newsletter arrives highlighting the inaugural meeting of the Board of Champions, held at IFAD headquarters in Rome, and the 48th Session of IFAD Governing Council that brought the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty to its Centre Stage of the High Level Segment of the Session.
The Centre Stage event established a dialogue to reinforce engagement with the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and identify synergies for collaborative actions, strengthening global commitments and partnerships.
Global leaders heard and discussed the impact of extreme climate events, conflicts and wars, population displacements and cuts in official development assistance programs and budgets. They agreed that these are factors that amplify the challenge of combating hunger and poverty. At the same time, the importance of the Alliance mission to revitalize global partnerships to support and accelerate progress towards eradicating hunger and poverty was made clear.
In three months, the Alliance has expanded its reach significantly, now encompassing 90 member countries, in addition to the African Union and the European Union, 69 public and private international organizations, and 10 international financial institutions, including the World Bank and many of the leading development banks.
We also extend a warm welcome to our newest members and are now in the final stages of establishing a professional team that will oversee the Global Alliance’s Support Mechanism. We are in the final stretch of the application phase for these vital positions.
