DEAR READER,
Welcome to the second issue of Lifting Lives, the newsletter of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. This monthly newsletter offers a brief update on key news and upcoming events related to the Alliance. Future editions may feature highlights, opinions, and stories from our members, showcasing how national policies and programs can lift lives and bring dignity, opportunity, and hope.
This issue brings news about two key developments: the preparations for the first meeting of the Alliance´s Board of Champions, on February 11, and the start of the recruitment process for the Support Mechanism.
After a well-deserved holiday period the Global Alliance Transition Support Team in Brazil (Social Development, Foreign Affairs and IPEA) got back to work on the next steps for the full Global Alliance implementation. The teams in UNRISD and socialprotection.org continue to provide invaluable support to communications and media, and FAO, the host organization for the Support Mechanism, is hard at work setting up the recruitment process.
And even during this usually lukewarm holiday period (well, in Brazil it does feel warm at this time of the year!) the Alliance has continued to grow, welcoming new members like New Zealand, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, IFFed, Global Alliance for the Future of Food, and INN-OEA. It now comprises 168 members, including 91 countries, 23 intergovernmental organizations, 10 financial institutions, and 42 philanthropic, academic, and non-governmental partners.
